How we review

Every PickRated review follows the same method.

  1. Shortlist from demand. We start with the models UK buyers are actually considering, with an established track record and a large base of owner reviews.
  2. Read the specs properly. Not the marketing copy, the spec sheet and the manual.
  3. Weigh long-term owner feedback. We look for patterns in what owners say after months, not days: reliability, running costs and the annoyances nobody mentions at launch.
  4. Cross-check expert testing. We compare against independent hands-on reviews and note where experts disagree.
  5. Pick, and say who it's for. Every pick gets a clear "buy it if" and "skip it if".
  6. Revisit. We aim to update reviews when a new generation lands or owner sentiment shifts. Every review shows the date it was last updated.

We don't accept payment for placement. We earn a commission when you buy through our links, which is how the site is funded. Prices change constantly, so we link to the live price instead of quoting one that might be out of date.
